Devotions for September--Week 1

You are Important to God!

“He loves each of us as if there were only one of us.”  -- Saint Augustine

/files/Student Ministry/~scroll.jpgYou are special because of God.  God says you are valuable to him.  He genuinely cares about you and what happens to you.  For this month we will have four subjects relating to how important you are to God.  They are; God created you, God knows you, God loves you, and God made you part of his family.  The idea is to really study one concept per week.  You will need paper and a Bible.  We used teh booklet Your Life in Christ, published by Navpress.

God Created You

Week One

God created the world and universe from nothing.  Can you picture nothing?  On the news lately there have been stories of scientists wanting to clone a person.  Someone once asked one of my professors, “If a scientist ever cloned a person would it shake his faith?”  His answer was one that I will never forget.  He said, “No, because it just proves the point that there was a mind behind the creation of the world.”  There had to be a mind to think up the planet and to create it, just as there would be a scientist behind his creation.  He also said my faith would only be shaken if they made something out of nothing.

God lovingly made each and everyone of us.  He has made us all different, because he has specific assignments for each of us.

1. Genesis is the book of beginnings.  Chapter 1 tells us that God created the universe.  Read the creation story in Genesis 1.  List at least three facts concerning the creation.

2. Using scripture from Hebrews 11, answer the question “How did God create the world?”

3. How should we respond to God’s creation (Revelation 4:11)?

4. Why did God create you? Isaiah 43:7

5. We are all created to worship God, but each of us is to do that in our own way.  Some of us are called into vocational ministry.  David of the Old Testament was to be king of his country and worship God that way.  Pastor Bob came out to Moreno Valley and started Moreno Valley Christian Church.  Each of us was created with the purpose of worshipping God.  What insecurities keep you from fully worshipping God?

6. The dignity God gave humankind is shown by one’s uniqueness, one’s authority, and one’s purpose.  List some facts from Genesis 1:26-28 that indicate:

a. The uniqueness of mankind.

b. The position or authority of mankind.

c. The purpose of mankind.
